The report is an in-depth interview with DNA Artistic Director Hillar Liitoja (and occasionally DNA Artistic Associate Magdalena Vasko). The interview is a recorded conversation in three parts. Part 1 provides a general introduction to HIllar Liitoja and details DNA’s artistic values, its aesthetics and some of the catalysts for DNA’s theatre practice. Part 2 expresses a detailed account of Hillar’s work with Richard Foreman and the influence of Artaud’s writings on Hillar’s practice.

Bio: Hillar Liitoja is the founder and has been the artistic director of DNA Theatre, in Toronto, since 1982. DNA has produced over thirty works, all of them radical, including some twenty “environmental” theater pieces, three ballets, and one installation.
