Archival Research Gallery
We have asked all those involved in Gatherings to provide us with examples of artifacts they have examined for their own research into performance. What follows might include the close examination of a single document or object, or a group of documents or objects. It will include experiences finding, visiting, accumulating, and assembling documents of all kinds. Researchers use many tools as they mine what they dig for meaning--from the microhistorical examination of a single source, to the assembling of many sources into a pattern. Perspective changes meaning. We hope, by providing these below, to offer models that might be used in other research, and to indicate, according to our mandate, just how widespread and significant performance has been in the cultures of Canada.
See our Public Resources page for a statement of purpose for our project, and for information meant to assist researchers and practitioners in their own work on the rich history of performance in Canada, in particular, the collection, preservation, archiving, and 'reading' of physical objects of all kinds. The instructions and advice on that page has resulted in this Gallery.
