Friday, June 10 – Saturday, June 11, 2022
University of Lethbridge, Lethbridge (Alberta)
Presented with the support of a SSHRC Connections Grant, the Gatherings Project, and the University of Lethbridge.
Widening the River: Communicating Performance Research Beyond Scholarly Communities—a two-day symposium (June 10–11, 2022) at the University of Lethbridge—brought together artists, scholars, community historians, and knowledge-keepers to explore how performance research could reach broader publics. The program featured a wide range of presentations, including the Mootookakio’ssin: Niitsitapi Digital Project with Josephine Mills, Danielle Heavy Head, Christine Clark, and Melissa Shouting, and an exploration of Japanese Canadian oral histories by Carly Adams and Darren Aoki. Filmmaker and oral historian Jenna Bailey shared insights from adapting oral history to documentary film, while Eury Colin Chang led a workshop on media engagement and public-facing writing.
